My bolts also do not contact the torsion bars. Worse yet, the bolts are bottomed out and the shell tends to tip sideways as it closes.
I'll be down in Anaheim CA later in the year, and there is a TM dealer (or former dealer) who may be able to help us out with torsion bars.
The torsion bars are supposed to have a lifetime warrantee to the original owner. I wonder if the new owners would honor that warrantee? If you were buying from an original owner and found that the torsion bars required replacement, it would be a good idea to see if the original owner could get a warrantee replacement.
This is likely more trouble than it's worth.
As for torsion bar adjustment, I recall somewhere on this forum some mention that the torsion bars should be first adjusted so that the bolt just contacts the torsion bar when the shell is open. Then the bolt is tightened or loosened a specified number of turns. I can no longer find that post so if some one knows, please tell me!
