I chose the rooftop mount to get the " bird's eye view" you mentioned. I also thought that location was safer from theft or vandalism. If I were to pick another location, I might choose the license plate mount as my choice and power the camera with the tail lights.

The taillights would only work when they are on. Great spot for a backup camera.
