I weight 150 lbs and have walked on the roof, but never with the TM open. I have never found the need to. I leave it closed when I want to work on the front shell. I open the front shell only when I want to work on the rear shell.

A carpeted piece of plywood is a good way to spread your weight out. I use a foam pad for my knees.
