I find my mileage drops noticeably in hilly and mountainous terrain. Flat only 1-2 miles per gallon difference. Fortunately because of the low profile a head wind is less of a factor vs a conventional trailer. If you are going to be peripatetic then a TM really pays off. If you are not driving far and plan to spend most of your time in one place, then conventional RV is more manageable. So I'd suggest how you plan to use your RV needs to be factored into your decision.
