I like this pic, as it shows the gas prices on the day that we picked up the TM. I wonder if in a few years we will be even more grateful that we chose the TM as those prices climb again.

The tongue weight on that must be over 600#. Doesn't your Expedition have automatic air bags on it? My brother's does. I think that they came with the tow package.

My 2006 Eddie Bauer edition came with the heavy duty tow package, but it did not have the optional rear air springs. With the tow package, I am supposed to be able to have max loaded trailer weight of 8600lbs, and a GCWR of 14,500lbs. The 3124KB has an unloaded tongue weight of 448 lbs, yet it does make my Expedition ride a little lower than normal in the rear. The GVWR is 7300 and curb weight is 5600, our passenger weight including all three of our dogs is roughly 650lbs. So if you add in the tongue weight we have only about 600lbs of weight before hitting the maximum. We have been conscious of how we are loading the gear in the trailer to minimize the weight in the front, but also not to overload the rear storage area either. I am hopeful that we can keep the gear in the trailer, and travel with only people in the TV. Does it sound like I am pushing it a little to close to the maximum weight? It seems to pull fantastic, but I have only traveled the short 130 miles from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins, and there was no gear or water onboard the TM.

You should be fine.......you might find that a WDH would do quite well on that rig. The relatively short wheel base of the Expedition to the trailer and the high tongue weight may unload the front end enough to be dangerous.

The tongue wt on my 2720 is nearly 500# loaded. I would guess that yours will be close to 600#.

Thanks for the insight, I will try to find a way to get it weighed just before the shakedown trip. Any suggestions on a way to check my tongue weight?

Well......here's how I weighed mine.....

I got an 8', 2x10 set it on it's side. Put one end 1" in on a 2x4 and the other end 1" in on a 1x2, setting on a bathroom scale. I marked the exact center of the 2x10 and placed the center of the hitch socket on dead center. I took the weight on the scale and doubled it.

If you are worried about the price of gas, stay away from California. We are currently hovering around $3.05 for regular... Great looking TM by the way!
