This is a picture from earlier this spring, but I was reminded of it again when it popped up on my screensaver. To me, this is what camping is all about. Peace, quiet, beautiful scenery, great company, and a flushing toilet for #2.

Any guesses as to where it is? Hint: it's not in Florida.

That is the coolest photo! When I enlarged it...I could see your collie. I would have never thought Florida. This looks like it is out West to me.

Being a native Floridian, this looks like the moon to me! Striking though. I was also thinking Death Valley.

Owens Valley, Alabama Hills? I think I see the ghosts of the Lone Ranger, Gene Autry, and Gunga Din... Great picture!!!

It looks like it's someplace that we saw signs for on the way to Death Valley, maybe the Pinnacles National Natural Monument? I love Death Valley, can't wait to go back there (well, after it cools down :o)!

LONE Pine! If this is indeed the location, the nearest flush toilet is in town...about 5 miles away! You may recognize the place since over 400 movies have been filmed in the area, everything from early westerns to features like Gunga Din and relatively modern epics like How the West Was Won. They have a film festival in Lone Pine every year around the first of October which is absolutely fablulous. It features trips into the Alabama Hills to the actual sites where things were filmed. An internet search will yield a wealth of very interesting information.

The Alabama Hills in California is correct! We thoroughly enjoy visiting!

I do want to check out the Chiricahuas NM though. Looks like a very cool place, but a bit of a drive for us at about 10 hrs.

If you go to Chiricauhua NM, be sure to drive the dirt road up to Rustler Park. One of the prettiest places I've ever seen.

Like to add just a bit about the Chiricahua mountains. I have hiked and hunted this range from one end to the other and it is one great place to visit. Rustlers Park is at the top and a beautiful but primitive camp ground. As you can guess by the name it does have a little history. Very close to that area is Barfoot park where there was a Boy Scout camp that I spent all my summers in high school and college. If you have a chance go to that area. It is worth the trip. Oh and it is all in Arizona although you can come it from New Mexico.

Has anyone take their TM up to Rustlers Park. I am sure that it would be no problem.

I was tempted, but I did not take the TM up there. The last time I was there the road was in good condition and I agree, it would have been no problem.

But, I think I would drop the TM and drive up and back to check first. It would not be fun to turn around on that road with the tm
