I'm in the process of planning our summer trip and I want to visit Wisconsin and Michigan. On the way I want to spend a day or two near Chicago and visit the Field Museum. Anyone have a recommendation for a campground in the area? It doesn't have to be super close; I would drive farther for a nice place.
Thanks,

The closest campground to downtown Chicago seems to be Illinois Beach State Park, which is about forty miles away. It is on Lake Michigan near the Wisconsin border.

Bill,
There is a DuPage county park called Blackwell. The campground is open Friday and Saturday nights from May through September. I live in the area and this is a very nice park and not very far from 88. WEB site: http://www.dupageforest.com/preserves/blackwell.html
Only problem is only open Friday and Saturday with checkout Sunday. Illinois Beach State Park is also very nice.

Check out this link, both are quite nice and within and hour to the city. State parks in the close vicinity fill up fast on a first come first serve basis.

Chain-O-Lakes state park is a bit northwest of Lake Villa but I am not familiar with the facilities there. Mike K.

Chain of Lakes is a great spot, but it tends to fill up quick, It has Water(at least close by) and Electric to most sites no sewer hooks ups. How long will you be staying?
