So whilst camping this weekend, a fairly large eucalyptus branch was dropped onto my '05 TM 2619 by a couple of crows at 6AM. No joke. I don't know how they did it, but it fell directly into my Coleman rooftop air conditioner. I couldn't recreate the event if I tried, but good thing I didn't turn on the unit as the branch was positioned down into the unit and the fan blades would have been toast.

Good news- fan blades are intact. Bad news, the black plastic grill cover/grate is broken. It looks like it's part # 9233B3151 but I've tried several places and it's discontinued according to the folks at RVUpgrades.com. Anyone have one laying around? I think the only other alternative is to buy a whole new shroud.

Shrouds ain't cheap. A dim possibility is to find a white shroud, remove the grill cover, and paint it black. I've gotten a few leftover plastic parts from the factory this way. Or you could leave it white - it can't be seen from the ground, even when the TM is closed.

However, in response to a query (below, presumably from you) at RVupgrades.com, they say they have the grille currently in stock for $24.57. Yes, it appears to be white, but a can of black spray paint for plastic is about $5. The entire shroud is $150+, which would make this a no-brainer for me.

Question: can i purchase just the fan grill?
I have a series 9000 a/c. The shroud is in good shape but the fan grill on the top broke off and disappeared. I just need to replace the grill.

Answer:

You can buy this separately and the part number for just the fan grill is 9233B3151. These are a low stock item and are not very common. We do not have these listed on our website, but we do have them available to order. If you would like to call in to place your order, we would be more than happy to help you with that. We have this product listed for $24.57 before applicable taxes(if in Ohio) and shipping cost. It is in stock right now. Our phone number is 866.332.788

Color is not important (as you mention, you can't see it). That query is old (not from me) but I saw it too and called them this morning. Sadly, they're out of stock and discontinued... :(

Here is the link to a company in OR that may have a grill in stock: https://bendtrailers.com/coleman-mach-fan-grille-9233b3151/

You need to call the number listed to verify availability.

Thanks for the suggestion, but they too are out of stock. I found a place in Canada that looked like they might have it, but they don't deliver to the US... and .. they're out of stock. I think I'm going to have to MacGyver something or buy a new $hroud.

"Buy a trailer" they said... "It'll be great" they said.

I'm sure you have tried Coleman directly? They are operating under a different name these days - maybe RV Comfort, which might be a subsidiary of something else? - so it is a bit of a pain. Just follow the chain.

Mine flew away on one of our trips last year ans I replaced it with a door screen grill from Lowes... not pretty but it does the job it's been on there for over a year and it was about 8 dollars...

DING DING DING... Trailmanor George wins the prize. That's what I was envisioning; something that's functional, while maybe not fashionable. I did find the good folks at Airxcel, Coleman-mach's current owner, to be very nice- the part was discontinued 8 years ago and a new shroud (with a built in grate) is $150 bucks. I'll be going to Loews and getting a door screen.

I love this forum.

That's a nice idea, although instead of installing the entire screen on there, I think I would cut it to a size slightly larger than the hole to reduce the stress on the shroud that wind puling up that frame might exert. I'd also use additional screws or rivets to do the same thing.

And if you're going to do that, you can simply get a piece of expanded metal that doesn't have a frame. That might be cheaper. An obviously, you'd want aluminum or stainless.

Am I alone in worrying about an open hole (even with a screen) in the top of an AC unit? I have the old AC in the side so this is a complete non-issue for me, but the design had me wondering.
