I need to put on a couple of vent covers, and will need to at least lay 1/2 my body on the roof. Can the roof handle my 220 pounds stretched out across it? I figured someone has been up there.... Thanks

Last year I had to work on the roof to change a Bag Seal. I cut a couple large pieces of 3/4" plywood, placed them on the roof, and worked on top of them. The plywood distributed my weight and kept me from putting dents in the aluminum roof. It worked great. I saved the plywood pieces I cut for future use.

Great idea, thanks

The plywood trick is exactly what I have done with excellent results. The object is obviously to distribute the weight to as large an area as possible.

Got two pre cut 3/4 plywood at the Home Depot 2 feet by 4 feet. I use one to sit on and the other to place to the new position if I have to move.;)

Same here, 'cept I had some 1" hard foam insulation scraps left over.

Lighter than plywood ... so I carry them with me just in case.

The roof is amazingly strong. I spent a lot of time up there when it was leaking. (But not at all since Trailmanor fixed it.)

I was able to install the vent covers without getting my full weight on the roof.

I can get to one easily, but the other 2 are in the center of the roof, so I can't reach them as easily.

Next winter, when we're in Florida, I'll probably get one of the Fantastic Fan covers for the bathroom fan.

Do you need a drill to install these, or will hand tools do the job?

I understand they mount somehow on the rim of the existing fan ...

Yes you do need a drill, I installed 2 on the 2619 and it was pretty easy. I'll do the Elk the next couple days and will let you know how that goes.

Vent covers are installed, no problems, pretty easy to do. I used a 3' x 2' piece of plywood to lay on when needed and it worked fine. I did disassemble the fan tastic vent fan for cleaning and to make sure I didn't drill into anything when attaching the vent cover brackets.

No problems encountered other than the 95 degree heat while laying on the roof! I was ready to finish when I did.

Yes you do need a drill, ...

Ok, maybe I'll take along the portable drill. I carry along just about everything else when we got to Florida anyway

No wonder I needed to upgrade my truck to one with a higher payload!

Do you carry a tall ladder too? :)
For some reason, I expect you to say "yes"....

When we were having the roof leak problems I did indeed.:D Lashed on top of the truck along with the kayaks. But after the roof was fixed, no.

Have been known to lean a picnic table against the side and climb up that. A little precarious though, so I'll probably bring the ladder this winter. It's the upper part of an Al extension ladder, cut down somewhat, and very light.

After all, we're already carrying along the kitchen sink.:)

I'm 220 and use old cushion foam under the 3/4 inch plywood so as to not scrape anything.

Good Luck
