Has anyone knowledgeable about solar power looked into using flexible panels for the TM? It seems like you could just glue on one or two to the back shell, rather than worrying about a mount/frame/etc. They claim to have good (better?) performance in partial sunlight as well.

Something like this: http://www.powerfilmsolar.com/total-solar-solutions/rv-solar-module.php

...or this: http://www.flexenergydelsol.com/

Lightweight and ease of installation are two definite bonuses to someone like me...

The longer mat may end up under the upper shell when folded (I haven't taken the time to take measurements yet) but it seems like it should withstand that kind of installation, unlike a more traditional panel. The second linked panel is claimed to be able to be walked upon, and any damage would only be to that segment (if, for example, the bag seal eventually caused some wear).

I looked at both sites and the thing that I find interesting is that there is virtually no technical specs on the panel itself. Nothing on one site and a comparison on the other. Check out www.windsun.com for a ton of good data on solar panels and choosing one. I considered flex panels, but found the performance of rigid panels to be better. Flex panels do have the advantage of being easier to store. Also where I camp, many times the TM is in a shaded area and attached panels would not work well. I mount mine on portable PVC ( folding) stands and move them away from the TM into a more open area.
