Axle confusion

I have a 2008 2720 TM. I would like to know where I can get accurate information about the equipment on this particular unit. I bought the unit used, and have not found any " unit specific" information in the paperwork that I received at the time of purchase.

I am particularly interested in finding out what axle my trailer is equipped with. It has 14" wheels with a five bolt pattern. I also read somewhere in this forum that TrailManor's made after a certain date were all equipped with a "lift kit" that would eliminate the need for an aftermarket lift kit to enable upgrading to 15 wheels and tires. Mine is a 2008, does it or does it not have a lifted axle?

I am getting old, and it isn't easy for me to get down on the ground to see if I can find any identifiers on the axle. I can get down, but it would take two men and a boy to get me back up off the ground.

I know you don't want to hear this but i'm afraid you are going to have to get under the TM (or find someone to do it for you)and find the ID Number for the axle then go to dexter and get the specs on it. I bought my TM new and it did not come with any info to identify the specific axle that they put in it.

Give your neighbor (or Miss Makita) a beer and your camera and ask them to take a picture of the model plate attached to the axle. Then it'll be just as good as you crawling under there, without the pain, and you'll have info you know pertains to your axle.

A few years ago, Ed at TM was able to tell me what axle I have from the TM's VIN.

If you go under the TM to check the axle tag -

First, there may be two tags. Be prepared to write down the contents of both tags.

Second, the tags may have a layer of paint on them, making them hard to read. I took a paper towel soaked in paint thinner under there with me, to thin out the paint on the tags.

As others have stated , there is no such thing as a unit specification sheet. And there was no firm cutoff date for "no lift kit" vs "factory installed lift kit" vs "high-angle axle with no lift kit". All of these things were phased in over time - a couple years, apparently - and at various times for different models.

If Ed can tell you the type of axle based on the VIN, that is a great idea.

The wheels (or at least wheel sizes) are the same on all TMs.

All that being said, why do you care about the axle? If your purpose is to switch from 14-inch to 15-inch tires, and you are wondering if it is feasible, there are much easier ways to tell than by tracing down the axle. Search down through the threads on converting tire sizes, and look for the 3-inch rule.
