I know that I am new but I am very happy about my Christmas miracles. First, my second grandson was born today. Second, is the first white Christmas in Central Alabama in about 180 years.

Tom,

Are you still getting rain out there? If so, any mud slides?

Bill

Bill,

We are about 12 miles inland from the Pacific. It stopped raining on Thursday evening. Right now, (Christmas morning 11:40AM), it is sunny with some clouds. The temperature is cool, 58F, when I looked at the outside thermometer just now.

That must sound pretty good to folks east of here.

Mudslides have occurred in the places that burned in the last two years. The amount of rain we got in just a couple of days has caused things, (roads, bridges, culverts, etc.) to wash out even though they can stand up to the usual amount of runoff.

The fires and the flooding are usually confined to foothill areas and just below mountain canyons. That is where most folks affected by this live.

Here in Orange County, they built a huge flood control system after the floods of 1938. So, most folks have very little trouble. We are actually glad to see a lot of rain since it means the lakes will be full in the local mountains and in the Sierra this summer.

Merry Christmas,

Tom
