My wife and I went and saw a new Elkmont 24 a few weeks ago and we really loved the layout. It's one of the best we've seen. Since I can tow 5500 lbs, I'm concerned about the weight of the trailer. I emailed TM about the weight of one with a/c and an awning and they said about 2763 lbs. Does anyone know how close this is to being accurate? I only ask because our last trailer was over 400 lbs heavier than the manufacturer claimed.

The brochure shows a dry weight of just under 2500 lbs. Add a "load capacity" of about 1250 and you get 3750 loaded. It depends a lot on options and what you load in it - including water, propane, batteries, food, and camping "stuff". And also a lot on what you carry in your tow vehicle. But I would venture to say that a 5500 lb rating on the TV would work.

Ours has the awning and air conditioner, also alloy wheels and electric jack. The posted dry weight is 2980#, but I haven't weighed it. The posted GVWR is 4230# and GAWR is 3619#.

The payload would then be 4230-2980 or 1250#. Inside under the sink, they post a cargo weight of 994#, that is after subtracting 216# of fresh water and 40# of propane from the 1250# payload.

The 216# of fresh water is equivalent to 26 gal. But our Elkmont has a 30gal fresh water tank plus 6gal hot water tank. They advertise it as having a 20gal fresh water tank though, so I guess they just forgot to redo the calculations.

The propane tanks are approximately 20# each empty, and about 37# full so that is about 80# they didn't tell you about. And since the trailer is delivered to the dealer with the 2 tanks it is a suspicious omission.

An easy way to understand estimated real weight is to go to the TM site. Choose the model you are interested in then click the build one button. You will see a screen where you can choose the options you want. Every option ( some might be considered as required/std) is weight added to the base weight. Odds are you will not enjoy camping in the base trailer.
