I think the sloshing is the key to the entire process. I have always been leery of using ice cubes in the Thetford. The internal screen just doesn't look that tough!

We've talked a lot about the Bruni method (aka geo?) on this board, though very little actual experience has been reported. I'm under the impression that it is intended to be a cleaning method, not a replacement for deodorizer chemicals.

Having used the Geo Method, I couldn't agree more Bill. I just took it a step further in my thinking (because I haven't done this myself). IF you have sewer hookups, you could dump every day or two, before the odor began to build. You wouldn't want to do that if you were paying for a bottle of chemical every time. IF you did dump more often, you could start with much more water, which would dilute the waste more, help it to drain more completely, and lower the smell. I'm just thinking out loud here, I'm sure others can chime in with their opinions... It certainly would lower the amount of noxious chemicals we use and then release into the sewage system.

As part of my return home clean up procedure, I add about 3 gals of water and a small amount of Odoban to the Thetford and run the pump to circulate it. Odoban is a cleaner/disinfectant used in many vet hospitals and is very effective. After sitting for a few minutes, I drain it. This has worked very well for me for years and does not seem to hurt he seals. I also found that applying a little RainX ( for plastic) the the inside of the bowl makes everything slide down better and keeps it clean.

Cool, I can just see a new Rain X ad using this suggestion...

I've waxed the bowl with Protectall but find I need to rewax it after 2 or 3 camping trips.
