Default Yellowstone suggestions

We are planning on taking a trip this summer from PA out to Yellowstone. An obvious stop is Mt. Rushmore. Any other suggestions? Also, any suggestions for campgrounds out there would be appreciated. We will definitely want full hookups since there are 6 of us, and may be bringing a friend.

Loved Yellowstone. Was one of my favorite vacations. we didn't have a camper at the time, rode the motorcycle from Iowa So I am not sure about campgrounds.
There is the dinosauer dig in Hill City SD that we liked if you have time. The needles are fun to see while there.
Tons of stuff to see in Yellowstone. I was disappointed in Old Faithful. I guess everyone has to see it one time, but I wouldn't waste the time again. there are more fun geysers to see in my opinion.
Have a great time

Default Yellowstone memories

Be sure to go to the ranger station and ask about ranger/volunteer led hikes.

All five of us loved the information and chance to get off the board walk and see the real Yellowstone!

Make sure you have good shoes or boots, backpacks for snacks and water, hats, bug repellant, sunscreen, etc.

Early morning is the best time before the main tourist groups come out. Best time for nature pictures too.

Fishing Bridge is the only campground inside the park that has full hookups. You'll need to make reservations well in advance, like right now, to get a space during the summer.

Outside the park, West Yellowstone is the closest place with RV parks. We stay inside the park when we go but friends use Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone and seem to like it. Check RVparkreviews.com

If you can afford it, take one of the all day yellow car tours. It's pricey - around $90 per person, but we thought it was worth the price. Small groups and knowledgeable drivers.

You can do the geyser basin area around Old Faithful by yourself. No need for a tour guide, IMHO. Also be prepared to stop and wait as bison take their time standing in the middle of the road. Just be patient. It's a good time to get your camera and take pictures. They own the road and know it.

If you search on "Yellowstone" you'll find other folks suggestions and experiences.

Also search "Black Hills" for experiences with the Mt. Rushmore area.

Be sure to see the falls at the Grand Canyone of the Yellowstone. There is a place to stand right where the water goes over. Spectacular.

If you like the rustic lodges in the national parks, the Old Faithful Lodge is probably the best of them all. They have a very expensive dining room, but the coffee shop is reasonable.

BTW, keep a safe distance from all animals. Here's why:

The Whitney Museum of Western Art in Cody is worth the trip just by itself...not to be missed if you have the slightest interest in Western history.

Edit: Whatever time you have for a trip to this area will not be close to enough... There is basically way too many fabulous things to see and do.

Not so sure if BlueGrass is correct about "full hookups." According to the information I just read from the Internet, the Fishing Bridge is the only campground that have water and sewer hookups, but it provides no electricity.

Fishing Bridge RV Park
http://traveltips.usatoday.com/yello...ews-50683.html

The RV park at Fishing Bridge is the only one in Yellowstone that is for hard-sided vehicles only, with no tent camping allowed. It is also the only place in the park where you will find water and sewer hookups. There are no electrical hookups, but you can use a generator from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. A store, restaurant and visitor center are at the Fishing Bridge Village. Therefore, it is one of the most luxurious campgrounds for RVs in the park. It sits on picturesque Yellowstone Lake, with hiking trails not far from camp. Despite the name, there is no fishing from Fishing Bridge, but you can do so elsewhere on the lake, along with canoeing and kayaking.
Can someone confirm?

Thanks.

We stayed there last summer for about 5 or 6 days and had full hookups. Not sure if the entire campground at fishing bridge has full hookups, but we and everyone else around us did. Here is the link to the campground: http://www.yellowstonenationalparklo...-park-255.html

Thumbs up

Jackson Lake Lodge in Teton Nat'l Park just for the view of the mountains as you walk up the steps to the great room.
