Default Looking for ideas for South East

It is time to start planning the annual summer excursion, and it looks like I won the where are we going this year game. Looking for ideas for Tennesse, North-South Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio areas. Time frame about 17 days, and we tend to do a great loop to get us back home. Where are some great places to go (must see or do), camp grounds etc. We usually will stop along the way to do the visiting and sight seeing and move on. Last years Texas trip was great - could have used some more time at the coast, but so it goes. One teen and one-preteen so it has to have some excitement. Thanks

For scenic the Smoky Mountain /Blue Ridge Parkway is great.
For interest there a lot of places in Virginia-- Williamsburg, Gettysburg battle field, Arlington Cemetery, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg are a few. All have tours, many by park Rangers that are free! As my Marine is based there we have visited the area several times and can tell you more, send my a message if you want.
I have been through the other states but will leave it to people more familiar to give you some good places to visit.

Memphis is a must. Go to Graceland and visit Elvis. Eat the best fried chicken in the world at Gus's and then maybe take a 20 min ride over to Tunica, Ms and hit the casinos. North Ga is beatiful year round. Unicoi state park is great and there are other state parks nearby also. Helen, Ga is a bit touristy but nice. Habersham winery is there also. Head over to Grubbers and grub for gems or pan for gold. It is a lot of fun. In summer you can also take river raft rides on the rapids or lazy float rides on the river through town. If you have time Savannah is always worth the trip. Tybee beach is a 15 min ride from downtown. Take the teens on one of the many ghost tours in historic Savannah or riverboat ride.

In western VA. you can't beat the Skyline Drive. There are 3 campgrounds on the Drive, but all are dry camping.

In eastern VA., check out 1st Landing State Park. It is right on the bay near Va. Beach. Water and electric, but no sewer hook-ups.

We have not been back in a number of years, but a family favorite of ours is Fall Creek Falls State Park in central Tennessee west of the Smokies. With a 250+ foot falls and great walking trails it has spectacular views. You can Google the web site which shows the campground as year round with a number of sites with hook-ups.

A must see if you want to understand "how it was" in the eastern TN mountains. Museum of Appalachia -- north of knoxville. Not stayed here, but Fox River campground is in the area I believe.

One of our favorites in GA is FDR State Park near Pine Mountain Georgia. Beutiful state park with lots of trails. Callaway Gardens is nearby and one could spend several days seeing all of their grounds. Roosevelt's Little White House in nearby Warm Springs is also an interesting tour.

Although there are no hookups my wife and I enjoy both Elkmont and Cades Cove in in Eastern Tennessee. Each are in the Great Smoky Mountains, within a few miles of each other, and just outside Gatlinburg. Check out Recreation.gov for more info.

Pocahontas State Park near Richmond, VA is wonderful and there is lots to do in Richmond and surroundings. The campsites are large and shaded and they have water and electricity. Not sure about 50 amp but they have 30 amp. Day trips to Charlottesville, Jamestown, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg/Busch Gardens would be convenient from there - all 2 hours or less.
