Using the furnace for the first time

The first time we used the furnace of our new TM the smoke alarm went off and there was a rather toxic smell. It was of short duration but long enough so that we had to open all windows and door to get some fresh air. When it burnt off the "new" of whatever was in the furnace it ran fine and has run perfectly ever since. Definitely a one time event.
