When I blow out the lines I always start with the faucets open since I can't regulate the air pressure on any of my compressors.

I start with faucets closed and let the hot water tank build up a head or air. But I do set the air compressor's regulator to about 50 psi.

One addition thing I do is, run about 8-16 oz of antifreeze through the water pump using a hose to suck the antifreeze straight out of the antifreeze jug.

Very true...

For me, winterizing is camping in Big Bend for a week starting this Friday. Chilly at night but high 60's/low 70's for the day time.

Nice, picking on us that have to put the camper away?

Wish we were out camping this weekend. We gotten out a few time in the snow. But for the most part it's not as much fun. But if you have never done it, you have to try it?

Every few years I schedule a trip to wright-pat in the winter to remind me why I live in Florida.

Did live in the DFW area for a few years & remember 70 at noon and snow by evening (actually more ice storms and the metroplex shuts down the next day).

Is it an urban legend that Dallas stored salt for the roads under the freeway but used it so little that it rotted some of the supports ?

Don't know. Dallas is kinda "way up North" for me. They DO however have the museum where we keep our one snow plow on display.

In my opinion Art, I would never subject my hot water heater tank to that much air pressure. At best I open a valve, turn on the compressor and then maybe close a the valve for a second to build up a little pressure to achieve more sputtering action from a faucet. Actually I toss a water heater bypass hose on my water heater after I drain the water heater really well.

One thing for sure, there are a 100 different ways to winterize and a lot of times it depends on how cold a unit may get in winter. In Buffalo we could see temps as low as -15 F or so.
