Difficulty opening older 3023

Our vintage 3023 had its main shell either replaced or recovered some years ago and now it is difficult to open because it is heavier. We have to use our tow vehicle to help pull it open. Would adjusting the torsion control bars help open it easier or do we just need to get the torsion control replaced? Thanks.....
