DW bought a 5 inch memory foam mattress to replace the 4 inch mattress. We replaced them mattress. The new 5 inch mattress is more like 5.5 inched. When we close the back shell. We now need to push down on the back of the rear roof. We only have the mattress, sheets and thin mattress pad.

No they threw it out after their dog peed on it, not realizing how difficult it would be to replace. I’m replacing the tires for my own piece mind.

No we’re picking it up and then putting tires on and driving home. The picture of the bed space is helpful. Thanks

Someone mentioned pictures...they are elderly and one has been ill so no pictures. A friend of theirs from church has been airing it out and wiping things down twice a year to keep clean, she said she didn’t see any signs of trouble or damage when she cleaned it in spring. The couple that own it onused it a few times over about 5 years before their health problems. I believe they said it’s a 2007.

Joyce bought a 5" memory foam mattress to replace the the factory 3-4 inch one. The width length were the same.

It ended up the new mattress is about 5.5 inches tall. With sheets on when have to push down the rear of the rear shell to compress the mattress to latch the rear latch. That is with the rear latch almost fully unscrewed.

I don't think a standard king will fit. I believe you have to cut off one side.

Also be careful about cutting foam mattresses. I’ve read horror stories about hidden layers that aren’t meant to be cut.

Just to throw in another example: for our king 3124KS my husband sleeps on custom foam mattress ($130) that is 2 layers: one layer is 4 inches thick, the other is 2 inches thick. The upper 2 inches (with twin sheet) gets rolled up and stowed on the couch. He's been very pleased with it. I wouldn't want anything thicker on there for closing the trailer.

My side is an $11 twin-size 8" air mattress from walmart with a thin impermeable foam layer over it and a 1 inch foam topper over that. When we collapse the trailer his sleeping bag goes on my deflated mattress side.

We ordered the foam mattress from Foam Factory, I was really guessing on the type/density of foam but it's worked out great. The specifications were

Bottom part of mattress
HD36 Foam - Regular
Dimensions: 4" x 79-1/2" x 39-1/2" $100.32

Top part of mattress
Cushion, HD36 Foam - Regular
Dimensions: 2" x 2" x 81" $31.50

My side 1 inch foam topper
Cushion, HD36 Foam - Regular
Dimensions: 1" x 79-1/2" x 38" $22.38

Well, if this turns out to be trouble-free, you're getting a $6000 or so value. I'd hazard a guess it will need a new battery too, as the old one would probably not have held up through a long period sitting idle. It should not be towed without one, as the emergency brake depends on the battery in a unit of that age.

If you've not towed before, the brake lanyard is one of the things you would need to learn about, and you should read something about towing.

Having an RV mechanic service the axles and brakes would be prudent.

Thanks for all the input on mattresses.

Bruce, I have shared your information with my husband.

I appreciate everyone’s input.
