Depends on whether there is any corrosion present (MA is a salt state). I would start with something like AeroKroil or PBBlaster or an acetone/ATF mix to free things up and then a silicone lubricant after working the joints (raise/lower) a bit.

We have never found the front shell difficult to open; just very awkward for one person because the tongue gets in the way of reaching the center. DW and I just grab a corner and the front opens very easily. In 3 years I have adjusted the torsion bars twice and the pocket stops once.
