Default Recaulking Proflex

I had to remove a trim piece and am faced with the Proflex I used a couple of years ago.

In my experience, whatever solvent removes all traces of Proflex will also remove the paint. I have heard that you can recaulk with Proflex over Proflex. I will remove the excess first, but is this true? Has anyone actually done this and confirms it works?
