That is super cool. What a trip that would be for a kid.

The route goes within 16 miles of the TM factory in Hartington, NE!

Interesting project the creator did!

I don't know anyone who either would have the time or the money to take such a trip. I don't that's for sure. But it would be a fun trip....and a lot of miles...I think that one of the best things about going away is coming HOME! 2-3 months? That's a long time to be gone....

I think this is a good start to planning a series of trips over the course of several years, with a bit of a tweak. My dream would be to plan a trip to a specific area, and take the back roads to that area, seeing whatever I could along the way, taking my time. Then spend a week or so exploring the destination area. Lastly, taking the fastest and most direct route home, ending the whole trip about 6 weeks after I departed. The idea of moving to a different camp site each night is what would deter me from ever taking a 48-in-one-go sort of trip. I'd rather spend at least 3 nights in any one spot. First night would be after driving most of the day. Second & third nights would be after exploring in that area. If even more days of exploring were needed in the area, all the better.

Yup, with my ideal mode of travel, I'm thinking a 48-in-one-go sort of trip would take me 6 years of nonstop travel.....

We took a trip covering a lot of this territory. From Oregon went to Minnesota, up into Canada, up the Saint Lawrence Seaway, across Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Sound, Nova Scotia, down the east cost of USA, over to the tip of Texas, across the southeast and back up California to Oregon. Three months, about 18,000 miles with every day a new adventure. I won’t go into a lot of detail but pictures can be seen from the link in my signature. The only regret was that it was a lot of mile in too short of time. To see what we wanted to see that fare from home it required that compromise. We love home and that time turned out to be our limit. My favorite trip was probably our first in the TM when the plan was to visit each of the five national parks in Utah for a week. Quality time not miles traveled or number of sites seen is our priority. That said the trip here would be an adventure no one would ever forget.

I've seen this map on other forums. Specifically on a motorcycle forum I subscribe to. It most likely was not created for camping or pulling a camper. The destinations suggest national parks, momuments, scenic areas likely offer motels, hotels, B&B, etc for overnights.

It was created in 2015 as an answer to a challenge - by a computer scientist. Quite an interesting read actually, if you follow the link in the article to his actual blog here - http://www.randalolson.com/2015/03/0...cross-the-u-s/

This year he created another one, adding a different twist the challenge, which required different coding to solve - http://www.randalolson.com/2016/06/0...imited-budget/

I find it all fascinating, and as he states in his article this year, it's a starting point to see what you want (number of locations), in the manner in which you want to see it (days on the road).
