Default Re: Weingart DC plug connection

Yeah, I hear you on the desire to use machine screws. That's why I suggested molly's. It's easier to access and accomplishes the same goal.

I'll be interested in learning how your wire are in your unit.

Best,

Gregg

Exclamation Winegard plug improperly fused !

While figuring out how best to add some higher capacity DC outlets, I examined how the Winegard amplifier and DC outlet were connected on my late 2004 2720. As 2619PDX reported, the amplifier/DC outlet are connected with 16 guage wire. The DC outlet socket is rated at 8 amps, and the maximum ampacity of 16 gauge wire is 10 amps (i.e., any more than 10 amps and the wire starts to get hot). It turns out that the TV outlet was fused with a 15A fuse in my TM. Therefore, if I plugged a high current device into the Winegard plug, and the plug didn't melt and open the circuit, the 16 guage wire would heat up all the way back to the converter. I replaced the 15A fuse with a 10Amp fuse. This seems like something TM should correct in the future.
