Default Retrofitting the lift kit - in words and pictures

This turned out to be fairly easy but I encountered a few hiccups along the way. So, in the spirit of helping out the next guy, here is how it went .......

Edit. This topic is sufficiently valuable to merit a place in the Technical Library (aka Trailmanor Info You Won't Find Anywhere Else - I hate that name, but what can you do?) Special thanks to Bill/wbmiller3 for taking the time to put it together.

Default Lift Kit Specs

Was wondering if someone had the Specs for the box tubing used in the lift kit. Thickness of metal, length, height , and width. Looks like about 2" square and 14" ish long. Maybe 1/4" thick??

Are you sure you need one on an '06? It was at about this time that TM made the added height standard. My very-early-build '06 has an actual lift kit (tubes between the axle and frame), but TM also began adding height by using an axle with a different initial angle - no lift tube needed.

I'm not saying that every '06 came out of the factory with added height, because I don't know that to be true. But many did. It is worth confirming.

There are no tubes between the axle and the frame. Plus the axle is welded to the frame so I'll have to grind off the weld to lift it. I do not know what the axle angle is nor do I know how to determine that. Using the old eyeball technique, there is no way a 15" tire is going in there.

Ok, I have stupid a question about "The Lift Kit". Where do you purchase it? From Trail Manor? Or, can it be made at a local Machine Shop?

Some on the board have ordered it from the factory and i'm pretty sure i remember that few have fabricated it locally.

I can't get Eddie in parts at TM to return my calls.

Does anyone have a ballpark figure of what they go for when bought from TM?

I think I paid ~$50 delivered a few years ago. Came with the 2 pieces of steel, bolts, and lock nuts (not the Nylock kind).

It's a real shame folks are still reporting spotty consistency in getting support from the factory.

That's what I remember too. South of $100 anyway.
