Default Used Trailer Extended Warranty

This is the same message as in the dealers section which is not where it should be. Just brought home a 2000 3023. Dealer suggested buying a service contract from Heritage of Lincoln, Neb. 4 years for $1395 w/$50 ded. if not repaired with original dealer, no ded. if dealer where we bought trailer does repairs (after approved). Four year premium refundable if no claims made, transferable to new owner, if canceled pro-rata premium refunded if no claims made. Basically insures trailer systems (appliances, toilet, etc. not for wear @tear but damage) not the trailer construction or the parts built by the manufacturer. Anyone with knowledge of this company or on this type of coverage for a 4 year old Trail Manor please advise prior to noon 2/25/04 because that's when I have to get back to the selling dealer with decision to buy the coverage or not. Thanks.

If I read you right:

It doesn't cover the trailer structure itself (the part built by TM in Tennessee).
Most likely it doesn't cover the running gear (axles, etc).
It doesn't cover tires (wear and tear).
It doesn't cover the battery (wear and tear again).
It doesn't cover the propane bottles.

It DOES cover the appliances, but only for outright failure, not wear and tear. For any given failure, who decides whether it is due to wear and tear? I may be wrong, but I think of appliances as failing for one of two reasons - manufacturing defect, or age (something wore out). Manufacturing defects generally show up while the appliance is young, and are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. That leaves - wear and tear. Of course, failure can also be caused by "abuse" - for example, if you force the refrigerator door open too far, it will break the hinges. Who covers this?

Anyway, from your description, the extent of coverage isn't very clear, and is open to a lot of interpretation. In that kind of situation, I'm not very enthusiastic (could you tell?) I've been bitten by a meaningless but expensive warranty.

The good news is that TM seems to have used top quality appliances throughout. Failures should be rare, especially in a relatively new unit like yours.

And a sort of a side question. Say, for example, the water heater fails, and they agree to fix it. The water heater repair takes 1/2 hour, but disassembling the TM so you can get the water heater out takes 4 hours. What does the repair agreement cover?

If anybody on this site has ever collected a dime on an appliance warranty, I'd like to meet you and offer my congratulations. You would be the first.

PS: Who do you thinks gets the big commission for selling you the extended warranty?

Thanks Bill and G-V Driver,
The seller gets the big commission. Heritage decides all the grey areas in their favor (usually). Trailer Life Mag. has been full of complaints regarding extended warranties. That's why I was searching for someone with experience about the Heritage folks. Thanks again.
