New TMs

Based on the TM newsletter, they are building 2017 TMs which is good to hear. Hopefully the quality has improved and someone will buy them. Noticed this photo on the newsletter, any thoughts on what the switch and the block of wood are for on the side of the stove/oven?

I'm guessing the switch controls the porch light, which was previously located on the wall up and to the right of the door when exiting. Not sure what the block is for. Support for the door when folded up?

I think the block is to catch part of the door when it's folded back. I can't quite see what's on the end of it, but it could be a magnet or rubber bumper. On older models that side of the cabinet is not at a right angle or not so close to the door, so there's more room.

The switch might be for the outside light. Larger models put that switch on the front shell to the right of the door viewed from inside. It might be that a smaller model doesn't have space for that.

I have a 2006 2720 and the switch is on the front shell to the right of the door.

The 2518 might not have room for the switch.

Did you notice the obvious retouch? There's an object on the floor stretching from between the wardrobe and the bathroom, to farther in front of the bathroom. Someone ran an image editor and roughly swiped over it with a hard-edged round brush. So, if you blow up the photo, there is a line of circles of floor tile there. One of the circles takes a bite out of the bathroom wall. Pretty inept.

It also looks like the door frame section is not deployed all of the way and the door is lying open against it. And the bed is pulled forward, with the bathroom down.

That's the best image they had to put in the newsletter? It doesn't really tell us that they have a prototype in the shop to take photos of.

Mine has that block of wood. It's for the edge of the door to rest on when folded up.

This was shot with a Nikon Coolpix L820 with the clock not set. So, I can't tell how old the photo is. It was retouched on 9/12 with the Gimp, to remove an object on the floor. At least they used Open Source.

I'm guessing the switch is for an electric slide.

Is the slide switch center-off with a momentary "in" and "out" side that you hold while operatinng? This one is just on-off.

Don't think the switch is for a slide, as it needs to have two switches - one for the direction, and the other as the "safety" switch. Also, doubt it is for the porch light, as that would be a long run of wire from there, up to the shell where the light is mounted. My 2417 has the switch to the right of the door, also, so space is not an issue on any model. So, I have no idea what the switch is for.

I love the new wood, as opposed to the laminate that was used before. The wood looks good, and can be repaired if there is a "ding" in it. In mine, a "ding" means the vinyl wrap is ripped, and much more difficult to repair and hide.

What it looks like is that the cabinet doors are wood frames with thin panels inside of them. I can't tell from the photo if the panels are veneer or Masonite with a paper surface printed with a wood finish. The previous cabinets had a lot of paper-surfaced Masonite. The cabinet sides and top might still be a foam laminate with veneer or Masonite.
