Default Anybody camp in summer in the south?

My husband only gets 3 weeks vacation a year--He currently has 11 days left. We are taking a beach trip (renting a house) with all four kids when the twins finish finals at Auburn (May 5). That takes 5 more days.

Best use of days off involves holiday weeks, so dh doesn't have to take so much time off work. I'd like to space our trips out a little, so Memorial Day weekend is too soon after the beach trip. That leaves 4th of July and Labor Day as our best bets for getting in a camping trip before fall.

Am I crazy for thinking about camping in the southeast during the summer?

Any tips on dealing with mosquitoes?
