Thanks for the post Malinda. I had not seen this older topic before with all of Bill's great advice. I don't have a lot of cold weather experience (in camping or in life really) because where I am from in Louisiana, 40 degrees is considered cold. We don't get much in subfreezing temperatures down here.

I am now more educated should I venture north in my camping excursions.

be sure to check the bottom of the mattress as the moisture from your body goes through it and will condense on the cold surface of the bed support pull out.. Did the thermostat die or just the battery?

We did check under the mattresses because of the posts here. They are fine. Neither the thermostat nor the batteries died. We just could not get the heater to come on. I've decided I love the original.

And yes, Bill's terrific advice is much appreciated!

We just filled the one propane tank that had been used during our super cold trip. We were out four nights in single and very low double digits, day and night. We were driving everyday except one. The heater ran pretty much all night except the night our new thermostat went out (got that replaced today!). We used 3 1/2 gallons of propane. We think that was a very small price to pay to be so nice and warm.
