We have the side A/C on our 2720, and have only used it once, on the way home from Oregon where we bought it. It worked when we had it plugged into the campground service, but here at home, it doesn't seem like it is working at all. The circuit it's plugged into is probably 15A (it's 20A, I just checked, however there is a 25' extension cord running out to the TM). I have never had to deal with A/C units before, being in the summer fog zone, so I know very little about how they work. Is 20A enough power to make the A/C work? I hear the compressor come on when the dial is turned way up, but the air outside is colder than what's coming out of the unit. We camp at places without hookups mostly, or with hookups in the winter, but possibly this summer might do an Oregon/Washington/Idaho/Wyoming trip where it might be needed.
Do these A/C units lose freon (are they similar to a car A/C?) over time? I could probably replace it with another unit (if I could find one that fit) but I really would like to just take the darned thing out, since we never use it, and put in a slide-in drawer that I would build and fit into the empty space with the option to replace it in the future.
Has anyone replaced a side A/C?
We could really use the extra space where the A/C is for storage...and then could probably get rid of the plastic stack of drawers next to the wardrobe.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. DH says to take it out if I want to...?
