Post Water heater

I cannot get the water heater to turn on.I read the instructions, but there is no switch in the outside box to turn. Are there better instructions somewhere?

If using electric , make sure the water heater has water in it otherwise you will burn out the heating element. now look for this switch.. see it by the venture tube? near the gas valve... look close it might have a cotter pin keeping it in the off position be sure to remove the clip/pin too.

The switch is hard to see. Here's another version of the photo, with an arrow pointing out the switch. From my Tech Stuff album. For future use of the Album, a link is in my signature.

Keep in mind some years did not have the electric water heater, gas only. What year and model is your TM? Any markings as to what make and model water heater?

How do you make sure there is water in the hot water heater other than just running water through every faucet ? Our water heater is coated in Styrofoam. Can't see anything inside.

Just like you said, open the valve for the hot water side of the faucet. If the water heater tank is empty, you'll get lots of air spitting out. As the tank fills, you start getting water mixed with air spitting out, til it's decent steady non-spitting stream of water.

To ensure that the tank is full, no need to run water through every faucet. Any one will do. I usually use the kitchen sink faucet because it is handy. When it stops spurting air, I know that the water heater tank is full of water, and the pipe from the tank up to the faucet is full, too. Of course, the pipes to all the other faucets still have air in them, so they will spurt for a moment or two when you turn them on. But knowing that the tank is full, that is OK. Go ahead and switch on the heater.
