Michigan - Northern Lower Peninsula

This summer we stayed at three campgrounds in Michigan.

Coming from the midwest, camping up here was a little different. All we can say is that we hope that you like sand. The sites were not as clearly defined as we were used to. The hard-pack of the sand allows campers to pull in however they want.

Here's a quick review of our stay:

Timber Ridge - Traverse City

Nice campground under new management. The facilities were in decent shape. Used to be a Jellystone until 5+ years ago. Bathrooms should have been cleaned more often. Really nice pool.

Mackinaw Mill Creek - Mackinaw City

600 campsites on 200 acres. Sites were small. We did have a nice site overlooking Lake Huron. You had to do your campfires in little fire pans. They did not pick up trash nor have many trashcans sitting around (except for ashes). The shower house was very far from being private. There was nothing seperating you from the person next door besides a curtain. No walls anywhere inside. Needless to say, we bathed in our trailer. Pool was small (20x40) for a campground of that size.

Jellystone - Grayling

The staff was wonderful. What a great group of people. Lots of things to do for the kids. 3 Playgrounds. They even let me wear the Yogi suit on a 92 degree evening (long story...don't ask). Facilities were well kept and the bathrooms were clean. Nice pool.

Out of the three, we'd definitely go back to the campground in Grayling.
