Default 2720 vs 3124

I've been thinking of getting a 2720 QB in the coming year. However, having not seen one yet, and my wife not having had any camping experience, I'm wondering if there are any opinions of the 2720 vs the 3124. For me the over length of the 2720 is an advantage for storage. If I got one with a swing hitch it will just barely fit in my garage. The 3124 would have to be stored in the front driveway.

However, there may be features of the 3124 that my wife and kids may appreciate that may very well outweigh the advantages of the 2720. I'm curious what those may be.

In my mind, something to consider is the 2720 has the queen bed, which sleeps sideways. Whomever is at the far end of the trailer must crawl over the other sleeper to get up, whether in the middle of the night, or in the morning.

If you are both under 5' or build a passage extension you can sleep longways in a 2720.

How many kids? How old? Will they sleep together?

One boy, one girl, preteens, but we wouldn't be getting rid of the trailer for a long time. If we have the two double beds, I'd probably sleep with my son, my wife with my daughter. Sometimes we may wish to take along another friend.

Originally I was only considering the QB model, but I'm thinking the QD or KD models may be more flexible. It would mean setting up the bed each time at night, but it would give more moving around space during the day. On the other hand, my wife is used to using every horizontal surface possible, which would make setting up at night more hassle.

I know, ultimately, I'd have to get my wife to look at one of these. Also, because I'm looking at the used market, I'd have to accept, to some degree, what's available.

Where will you store your trailer? If you can garage it, it's going to stay in its present shape for a long time. Not so much if you store it outdoors. If a 2720 will fit your garage and a 3124 won't, that's a good reason to get a 2720. Also consider its length with the swing hinge on the a-frame, which will make it short enough to fit some garages it would not otherwise, although the hinge has been troublesome for some folks.

Having to crawl around your partner in the middle of the night is a problem. The 3124 doesn't have this issue.

And of course there's money. The 3124 can be more expensive.

I have exactly 18' in my garage. I would probably have to modify the stairs into the house to gain a few more inches if the 2720 were to fit. If I got a 3124 I'd probably get a cover for it. The only issue on my driveway is I think I have 18 or 20 feet from the garage door to the property line. I have another 6 feet to the front sidewalk. So, IF a neighbor complained, even a 3124 could cause me a headache.

We originally got a 2720 QD/SD.....with the dinette. We loved it....we love sitting at a booth. The grandkids slept on the booth/bed, and said it was comfy. Storage was an issue, but we managed pretty well. Then a 3124 came up for sale nearby......we sold the 2720 in 2 days on Craigslist, and bought the 3124. We like it even more. The king bed is great - my husband no longer has to crawl over me (I'm the one who does 3am trips to the lav). The extra kitchen counter and storage is fabulous, and there is much more storage under the bed. It feels and is roomier. We miss the booth.....and yes, even in the 2720, the booth makes it roomier. We took the recliner out of our 3124 and put in 2 folding deck chairs. About the same for towing. Yes, more of a problem for winter storage, but we wouldn't go back to a 2720. Good luck with your decision and choices.....and yes, availability in your area is an issue. We bought the sofa version (3124KS) because it was for sale nearby.....

Thanks,

Your thoughts have been very helpful. I think I might start considering the 3124. The only issue I have to be concerned about is the length in the driveway. I think it's 18' from the garage door to the property line, but I still have another 8 or 10' to the public sidewalk. As I understand it, the 24' is the towing length, so the box length is probably about 22'. As long as the city doesn't care as long as it's not blocking the sidewalk, I may consider it.

Extra cubby space = happy wife = happy hubby.
