Default Prospective 2006 2720

I've found a 2006 2720 that looks to fit the bill of what we are looking for. This will be the first RV we have purchased and would appreciate some help/direction as to what to ask about. We are buying out of state, and we will be unable to see the TM in person. Let me know what you all think, and what I should ask the dealer about.

Information:
2006 2720QB, one owner, stored inside, dealer says everything works, shells are easy to open/close, no body damage, no rust, curtains are a little faded, but not falling apart.

Options:
A/C, microwave instead of stove, cabinet above sink, rear bike receiver.

Attached some photos below, let me know what you guys think!

The most obvious is make sure everything works: 3 way fridge and 2 way water heater.

Looks like the Sharp Grill/Bake/Microwave (R55TS).

Next check under the flaps for torn/pulling Velcro.

Check the hold down clips and the channels the door fits into for pulling screws.

Check the battery size and condition/age. (less than 3 years old)

Make sure the brakes work.

Check all lights both in and out.

Check exterior fittings for corrosion.

Is it easy to open ? Close ?

Note that this is a 2720 and not an SL or SD. They are a little less expensive without the slide.

Check the tire condition/size (15" is good) age (less than 6 years old).

And general fit and finish.

See if someone on here is close and would check on it for you?

Anyone near Jackson Center Ohio that wants to check out a TM for me? Otherwise, give me your opinions based on the info/photos I've posted. Much appreciated!

The photos look pretty good. The thing I always look at first is whether the bottom edge of the front shell and the bottom edge of the rear shell form a nice straight line, as they do here. If one of the shells were sagging, it would show up here, and you would have to ask why.

To head off a few questions that always come up:

1. In the upper right corner of photo #4, you can see a black rod-shaped thing on the rear edge of the front shell. This is the amplified radio antenna, and it has a tiny red light that you can see in the dark. It is supposed to look exactly like that. Folks who boondock a lot often rewire the thing so it doesn't draw standby power from the battery.

2. In photo #7, you can see the bright vent in the ceiling. Although you can't see it in the photo, there is a rotary switch in the vent housing. This switch controls power to the two under-cabinet lights that are way off in the dark in the front of the trailer.

3. In photo #10, between the toilet and the vanity it looks like the flooring has lifted and curled. Not to worry, it is supposed to be exactly like this. It provides clearance for the wheel well liner below it, above the left tire.

4. Photos #8 and #12 show surprisingly little rust on the frame components. This is a good thing - it suggests that the previous owners did not use the unit much, and kept it garaged.

5. Photo #12 also shows some patchwork in the underside aluminum skin, over near the right edge of the photo. This is supposed to be this way - it is part of the factory assembly procedure for the trailer.

6. In photo #14, at the top of each diagonal brace you can make out a steel nut hanging out of the bottom of the white bar. It looks like someone may have tightened these nuts. They are not supposed to be tight! They simply hang loose, so the bolts don't fall out as the bed is slid in and out.

Looks good from the photos.

Thanks Bill! Really appreciate your thorough explanation and review of the photos. Everything looked pretty good to me in the photos, but I've only seen them in person once, so looking for the expertise of everyone here to let me know if everything looks A-OK!

Here are 2 more photos that I have that I didn't include in the original post. There were 2-3 things I noticed that maybe someone could answer for me.

In the first photo, it looks like the flooring right under the carbon monoxide detector is slightly curved/lifted. The wood baseboard seems to disappear slightly behind the floor. Is this normal, or could it be the photo?

In the 2nd photo, any concerns about the discoloration on the wood shelf, or the stained? wood under that valve on that tank? To me it kind of looks like it got wet, possibly a leak out of that valve? I believe this is under the sink, but not sure what that grey unit is.

I'm this close ---> <--- to becoming a TM owner and site sponsor! Thanks guys!

Under the monoxide detector? You mean back there in that dark corner near the kitchen sink? I lifted and "improved" this area of the original picture a bit (see attached) and I don't really see a problem. Yes, it looks like the vinyl flooring is lifted a bit, probably from some spilled dishwater. There are no pipes under the floor here - and the vinyl is put down on top of an aluminum skin - so I doubt that there is any underfloor structural problem. It is possible that the water was spilled in the bathroom and seeped out under the wall. But in that case, I would expect it to be much more visible in the bathroom, and I don't see anything in your original picture #10. I would just glue it back down - maybe lift the trim strip if necessary - and be done.

By the way, that is probably a propane (LP gas) detector, not a monoxide detector.

As for the discoloration on the shelf, it just looks like the previous owner spilled a little cleaner of some kind. and the raw wood surface soaked it up.

Thanks bill, what about the wood panel under the grey tank? Not sure what the grey thing is under the sink, but that wood there (where the black PVC pipe goes into the floor) looks like it got wet?

Brad,

I know how it feels to buy something sight unseen. If possible I would recommend asking the dealership for some sort of warranty/warranty period. Also look into your credit cards to see if they have any sort of warranty or protection for you if you were to purchase the TM with it.

I think the TM is being sold on consignment or something because it is at a dealer/RV Service center, but he had to run my offer by the owner. Don't think I would be able to get any type of warranty from the service center. One of the reasons I feel somewhat comfortable with this is because it is like buying from private party, but having an RV shop check it out first. He has been very helpful taking pictures and answering questions and has said he hasn't found anything wrong with it other than the faded curtains. I'm going to ask him about the green spot and the "wet" wood as well as the lifted linoleum in front of the sink.
