Default TapaTalk 2 Forum App

A little over a year ago Chris posted a survey on whether people were interested in a mobile phone client.

Just wondering if a year later there is more interest than a year ago?

There's an APP available for Apple/Android called Tapatalk 2 that works with the most popular forum platforms including vBulletin.

There's a free plugin available for the host (since this site does not generate revenue from ad's and I don't think we need the branded version, the free plugin should work).

Forum members that want to use it would buy the client app (Android version is $2.99). Once you have the app, it can be used for any/all forums that have the plugin installed.

More info here (click download app to see screen shots for your smartphone)

Not sure if this particular solution is the best for our forum and our subscription model, but any interest developing out there?

I already use tapatalk for a couple of other forums I visit. It is very convenient and it would be great to have it here.

If there is more interest in this, I would be happy to put it up. Let me know.

I received a PM from one of our site sponsors asking for a better description of what an app like TapaTalk does.

From the reviews and screen shots I had a pretty good idea, but went ahead and downloaded it on my Smartphone and joined the TapaTalk user forum (which has the TapaTalk server plug-in installed).

It basically intercepts the data from the forum that would normally go to a broswer and reformats it for your Smartphone. You don't have to adjust the screen size up and down to be able to read message and navigate. Everything is re-formatted for your Smartphone and there are buttons and menu options for search, reply, new topic, read/send PM, etc built into the app, rather than trying to use a finger to hit a small link like you do when using the browser.

It basically makes the web based forum written for a browser (and big screen) seem as if it was written for the Smartphone with all of the menu/button Smartphone functionality you would expect in a Smartphone app.

I have used the Smartphone browser on occasion, but navigating screens and adjusting the screen size up and down to help my starting to go downhill eyesight is usually not worth the effort.

With TapaTalk it looks like using a Smartphone to check-in and post would be a lot easier on the eyes and would be easier to navigate.

In addition, it hosts pics for you direct from your phone.

Also, the tapatalk app uses much less data to load pages. It allows me to browse anywhere, not just when I have wifi. Another popular forum for popups uses it, and its invaluable to me.

My phone is around 7 years old. It does not have a touch screen. It is a phone.

My daughter has an Ipad. Even with my reading glasses on I can just barely read it, and the lighting has to be just right.

I type at 85 words per minute. I have yet to figure out how anyone can type that fast on such a small device.

If they come out with an 8.5x11 Iphone then I might become interested, but I have no idea where I will find a pocket or a phone that large.

Error free speaker independent voice recognition ill solve that problem. They have been working on that since at least 1981. Any day now they will figure it out.

I don't use a laptop unless it has a real mouse, keyboard and monitor connected.

I don't check TMO as much as I used to because I am mobile more & I prefer to use my Iphone with "Wait for IT" TapaTalk LOL

Didn't even renew my premium Membership till today because I haven't been here. I have to work harder to stay ahead of the current administrations belief I didn't build my businesses & I am so RICH I should give more to the entitled society.
