Default Overnight stopovers

Next year we're planning a trip to Disneyland. The trip would probably take us at least 3 driving days. I don't have to time to have a leisurely trip down where I can drive for a couple of hours at a time, then camp for a few days.

In WA, OR, and CA, you are permitted to rest for up to 8 hours at rest stops. I plan to make use of this if there are no vacancies at camp sites with hookups. What are other's experiences with overnight stopovers? Can one usually find a campsite in these areas at the last minute? We would be travelling in August.

A lot of WalMarts allow overnight parking, including tractor trailers and campers so long as you donít unhook from the tow vehicle.

We never had a problem in CA. on side of the highway. Truck stops work for me as well. Never had a problem, there are generally more rv's that come in thru the night

We did have a problem at a walmart in Santa Maria CA. was woken around 2 am to a flashlight beating on the door. That walmart was not owned by them but rented out with others stores in the strip mall area. So that is something to think about for walmart lots, they must own the land

Walmarts in Canada are becoming more and more of a no go.

With no water hookups, I'll have to teach my family the art of the sponge bath. My 10 year old and wife can each fill the holding tank with one shower!

We never had issues with stopping at a state park of national forest just coming off the road. But we call during the day to find out the late arrival procedure. I will normally take a list of such parks so I know where they are. I usually check to see if there are a lot of sites available before I leave.

I have stayed at a walmart once and rest areas a few times. Worst place to try to sleep. Bright lights and much noise.

The other thing we have done is stoped at free campgrounds. But they fill up quickly by about 9:30

We're 2500 miles from the West Coast, but most Walmarts over here, especially near the freeways, apparently don't mind overnight sleepover stops. Never stayed at one, but you can pretty much tell when you see tractor/trailers parked out away from the store.

Light isn't so much of an issue for us.
I made removable valances that can accomodate blackout curtain material. Noise is an issue, though. Rest stops may not be too bad unless there's a rowdy crowd or a semi keeping his engine running for a refridgeration unit.

We stayed in a Kamloops Walmart with then permission. The city was relaxing the rules for overnight parking. because Kamloops was being used to accomodating forest fire evacuees. Noise was an issue though.

Default Casinos

Most Casinos welcome overnighting. The AllStays app shows National forest CG
(The green ones on app) that rarely fill up and inexpensive.
