Trailmanor Refrig Replacement

Does anyone know if a larger frig will fit in the TM?? The standard (I think its a 3.3) was vetoed by the wife as being just too small for much of anything. I have read some posts using a second 12V unit but the question is whether a larger refrig can fit in the TM due to height?

I don't believe you can get a taller unit. When you close the TM, the top shell comes right down on the countertop. If you feel you need more refrig capacity, you have a couple options.

Some of us (including me) use a 40-quart Coleman 12-volt thermoelectric cooler. It travels on the floor, and I lift it to the countertop when we arrive at the campsite and open up. This has been a great solution for us - we love it - but the general experience is not all positive. You might want to click the search button, type in "thermoelectric", and open up the default search window from 60 days to perhaps 600 days.

At least one other person on the board has installed an inexpensive college-dorm type refrig. These operate on 120VAC only. In my 2720, I'm not sure where I would put it, but in the larger units, there is probably space.

You can also get a dual-voltage compressor-type unit (like a house refrig, rather than the absorption-type unit in the TM). Camping World has 'em, for example. A little pricey, but nice. Again, someone on this board has one - who is it?

Well, you're not going to get a home sized refrig in any RV short of the very top of the line 5-ers. I think most are in the 7 to 8 cu ft range...and that's not a heckuva lot more than 3.3 cu ft. But actually the 3.3 cu ft jobbie isn't that limiting. Yeah, you have to think downsize in terms of the containers you stick in it...and the freezer only holds a few frozen food packages...but I find it will easily hold at least 2 or 3 days worth of food for two people (I went for 8 days by myself). Lots of nooks and crannies you can cram lots of small containers into. The key phrase here is small containers.

That was I who installed the dorm type fridge in my unit as my TM 3-way died on me. Hence, I replaced it, didn't add it. I guess I could put an inverter on it to run it off of 12v while travelling, but we usually just chill it down the night before, throw one of those blue ice thingies in there, and set out for our trip. Haven't had a problem yet. We suppliment the fridge with two coolers and are satisfied enough with that, we set em outside for the most part so's they're not in the way, and we don't have to make room on the counter or floor for the thermoelectric cooler.

We use a Coleman cooler (12V with an AC converter) that sits on top of the countertop. I've never liked the look of it, but Ellen likes to bring heads of lettuce that need the space, and heck, I;m not trying to win an award from House Beautiful after all. Our soft drinks we place outside in an Igloo cooler so the kids can access it without open the TM. With all that space, we're okay. The one thing Ellen would like is a larger freezer, however.
