St. Louis, Missouri

We spent two nights at Babler State Park which is west of downtown St. Louis. It has a very nice campground located on a forested ridge in a large state park. There are electric hookups but you have to tote water from the hydrants. Bathrooms well maintained. Sites are paved with concrete and very level. There is not a lot of vegetation between most of the electric sites but they are spaced well apart.

It's not centrally located but the major tourist sites are a short drive away. It was brutally hot when we were there (100+) but that seemed abnormal.

I'll stay there again if I visit the area or pass through.

We travel by auto and now hopefully with TM through Missouri every year. We leave Florida and go through Paduca Ky and if I remember right through Il. and then St. Louis and then get on another long road to Kansas City and hang a right to go up to Maryvillle in the North West corner. It is always brutal...

Hard to know where to stay once we leave Paduca...get to close to St. Louis and we feel ya just gotta keep going...then it has always been tough...driving far enough to get a decent Motel in a descent area.

I will check this out to see if they are open late October and early November and how far they are off the main roads.

(I stayed up late sewing some hopefully useful items for the TM and can't remember the HWY number...Tom always has them memorized...even though I co-polit I usally knit or read during day light on the road.)

Thanks for the tip for ST Louis. We are hoping to go down there for a long weekend next year to catch a Cardinals game.

The heat is not exception in St. Louis. However, today's temps in the low 70s is and exception which we are enjoying. MO has many nice campgrounds and an excellent website about them. It shows the amenities, a photo of the campsite and even its driveway lenght and slope. Just go to the MO DNR site and you'll get more info than you need. Phone reservations can be made, also. We just returned from Rocky Mountain National Park. Hwy 70 going east at exits 208/209 are being repaired: one lane traffic. So check with the MO state patrol if you are traveling east on Hwy. 70. Hwy. 64 is also under major reconstruct and MoDOT has current info on their website, also. Good traveling. Olga and Ken, Northwoods (Florissant, MO)

I don't know if folks are trying to get through St. Louis but we have stayed at (see below) about 4 times. It is right in the middle of town but so close to everything to see in town. I think you could walk to the ball park. They have a great Children Museum and also the arch. One thing nice about St. Louis is most all the Museums are free. At least they used to be. It is a vary safe park. No grass-no trees-no tables all cement they do have a pool and laundry. Gate is locked at night. [/U]hhttp://www.stlouisrvpark.com/

Stayed at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis in 2005. They really pack the campers in. Paved with Electic, Water & Sewer. See Pic below. Breakfast was great at the casino on the river. I was just passing through.
