Default What is this part

Saw this crack on both sides of the trailer. It the top corner piece on top of the bag seals. It seams to be holding the corners together so this is really freaking me out that I did not see this when I first inspected the trailer.

Any info on what this part is called or if you have seen this happen before would be much appreciated.

I'd call it a reinforced corner moulding. Looks like stress crack. The campers roof sections tend to have a lot of movement while being towed. I'd recommend using a "L" shape metal bracket to reinforce the corner so it does not crack event more. I've seen a L bracket with and without predrilled holes. You may get lucky and the predrilled type just may be in the right spot as the screws that fasten the moulding pictured. I'd suggest placing a weather type caulk in the crack before the bracket.

It does cover the corner and I wouldn't remove it. It may not go back on flush as the factory applied part was installed. It may also be a heat issue meaning the camper may have been stored outdoors, uncovered, and the corner plastic cracked.

The factory has published a parts cataloge and does list the part in your photo. It is listed as part #10206, Front Top Cap. Call the factory about the availability of the part and if it is a direct replacement for your cracked cap. You could also email them a copy of your photo which should help in determining the correct replacement.

Lightbulb If filling in: Boat sealant choices (NOT normal caulk).

You want to use something a lot stronger than any "adhesive caulk". There are alternate brands of "boat sealant", but I'd go with one of the original 3M formulas.

I have used 3M 4200 to rebuild a corner of my 2619, accidentally smashed into a garage door frame corner - and the repair is still holding together really well after many years. (Although it has turned slightly yellow, in comparison to original TM white paint and the bright white plastic "external bracing" colors.)

3M '4200' has better resistance to UV, but it's slightly flexible. For this repair, I would choose 3M '5200' - much stronger and more resistance against flexing. For either one, clean thoroughly, and then use just a tiny bit of "misting spray" water (not big drops) to assist the curing process.
