Default Floor Plan change from 1997 in TM 2720?

I am searching for a used TrailManor, and have come across a 1997 model 2720 that is showing no slideouts, does not have the bed or booth in front, but instead, a couch. Does anyone who owns an older TM know whether or not that is factory stock or maybe a change made by the owner? Also, has the "sandwich" construction of the unit always been polystyrene between aluminum, or were some of the older models made with heavier materials? Has the recirc. toilet been in them since 97, too? I know it's a lot of questions, but I want to be pretty certain this is what I want because the unit is almost 1200 miles away, and I don't want to make the choice just on photos I received. I thought I would get some unbiased info from this forum. Thanks, in advance, for your help.

We have a 1997 2720 (not a slide). It has the same basic wall construction as the newer ones and a recirculating toilet.

I scanned a 1995 brochure we have that shows the floorplans and I can email it to you if you'd like, just send me a private message.

In those days, the upper shells were framed with wood. It worked perfectly, unless water was allowed to get inside the walls (caulking failure, accident, etc). If that happened, the water gets trapped inside and there is a good possibility that the wood has rotted, which brings a host of problems and is not easy to fix.

I'm not saying that this is common, but it does happen, and would make me leery of driving 1200 miles.

There have been several threads on this board about how to determine if the wood has rotted, so the Search function may help you, as long as you are still a Trial Member (or become a Sponsor). Things like look at the bottom edge of the shells, remove some screws, and look into the hole - looking for solid dry wood or dark rotted wood. Looking for screws that can't be tightened but just spin in the hole.

Default Floor Plan Change

Thank you,Bill. That will help me immensely. I'm also looking at a 1999 model 2720SL in Illinois... only 550.... doable for me, so I will print out what you said and put it together with my notes of what to look for. Thank you very much. I plan to continue with TM's Owner Pages and entire website... what do I have to do to join so I can continue once I purchase my TM? I know I'm going to need all the expertise TM Owners have once I get on the road with my "new" trailer.

Just for clarity, there are 3 versions of the 2720, and to my knowledge they are the same today as they were in 1997. All 3 versions are identical from the door to the rear. Only the floor plan in the front changes.

2720 - no slideout; dinette and bed in front (the bed in front pulls out just like the rear bed)

2720SL - has a slideout; movable Lazy-Boy style chair, open floor space, and side-to-side couch in front

2720SD - has a slideout; storage chest , open floor space, and dinette in front.

Sometimes people list a 2720 for sale, when in fact it may be a 2720SL or 2720SD. That was the case when I bought mine.

Go to the real entry page to this forum. It is at www.trailmanorowners.com. The text talks about becoming a sponsor, and there is a SPONSORSHIP link to tell you the details.

Welcome aboard! I'm glad you found this board worthwhile.

Didn't TM build a model with no bath or other things and call it the Sport? It just had four beds (two dinnettes). I remember coming across one when I was shopping.

Yes, I believe that was a 2619 Sport. No shower or toilet, and I don't think the cabinets and wardrobe across the hall from the bathroom were there either......because there was a dinette in that space. So essentially, you have 2 identical beds and 2 identical dinettes (which converted into beds) on each side -- total sleeping capacity: 8. What a party.
