Default Lajitas Resort, Big Bend Texas

We had a great time last week in Lajitas. The RV camping sites are part of the Lajitas Resort. They sit across the street or highway from each other. The Resort is the primary business in Lajitas. Hotel, Golf Course, Agava Spa, Gifts stores, Bakery, Saloon, Gas Station and General Store, Equestrian Center, Airport. We spent 6 days with activities ranging from Golf, Hiking in the National Park, Canoeing the Rio Grande, Spa, motorcycling. Here are a few pics. Spaces are full hook up sites, wide, remote and nearly treeless. Wifi is available in 1/2 of the campsites. Large Clubhouse with laundry facilities, game area, mens/womens showers. Unless you bring a satellite dish, there is no TV available. No radio reception either. Most campers are there for the remoteness, hiking, river access, and to get away from it all. You can disconnect from the electronic grid as much as you like. Views are vast, and the dark sky is exceptional. Watch your fuel mileage. Some stations are 100 miles apart. The communities of Terlingua, Study Butte and Big Bend Villages of Rio Grande Village and Panther Village are within the park. One of the more remote areas of the country and should be seen and added to your bucket list. its a once in a lifetime experience that we have enjoyed twice in less than 3 years. We may make the destination again one day.

Nice pictures! Thanks for sharing them with us. Looks like it might be a good place to take a dip in the summer?

Not exactly. The Weather Service measures the temps there in the summer as some of the hottest in the nation at well above 110 degrees. Comparable to Death Valley heat. Not a place to spend time outdoors in the summer. Best time is spring or fall but reservations can be necessary a year out for Spring Break or Holidays. We were there last week and the hotel was full and the camp sites in the NP were all full. 50-60 degree temps is perfect for hiking the NP trails.

Looking forward to 60 deg temps here at Joshua Tree NP. Been in the 20's at night and mid 40's during the day. Have never run the heater so much!

I hear ya. The temps in Big Bend last week were nice during the day with the sunshine but at night, they were cold, cold. Had to think about freezing issue for the water lines etc. I did run the propane furnace at times but mostly got by with an electric heater and an electric blanket under the sheet set in the king bed. Nice and cozy at night.

Made into Big Bend on Monday this week, weather has been overcast and light rain with temps around the mid to upper 40's. Weather is supposed to start clearing with highs around 80 by this weekend. We decided on camping at Cottonwood CG on the parks west side as no generators allowed. Sites to park your camper and TV are small with large grassy areas between sites.
Two Great Horned owls spend the day near the TM. Vermilion Fly Catchers and wood peckers along with Road Runners all over the CG. Haven't spotted the Javlina's (SP) yet, there is supposed to be a group of 7 the feed on the grass in the CG. Already been on some of the back roads getting a memory refresher. Plans are to hit some of the hiking trails. We haven't made up minds yet to cross the boarder yet but we understand Victor is still there although he doesn't row the boat any more. Also red tape to cross that we didn't have in the late 70's. The burros are still there for the ride into town and they have two restaurants instead of the one when we were there last. I'll have to get with Commodor47 or Bill and set up an account somewhere to post all the pics to.

Nice write up on the NP campground. Not aware of the red tape? Gotta passport, you're set to cross and return without issue. Hopefully the weather will break for you this weekend. Beautiful country out there. We hiked the Window Trail in the Chisos Basin last month and canoed the river. The road out to Cottonwood which is Ross Maxwell Scenic drive out to Santa Elena Canyon is noted as one of the best in the nation. Nice hike out to Mule Ears. Enjoy. One of my favorite places to getaway from it all.
