Default Who has replaced their air conditioner

We have a 10+ year old '07 with the original Coleman a/c. As many know these units blow cold air at noise levels well above comfortable or conversation-allowable. I have read one or two threads about the Atwood a/c that indicate straightforward installation, good cold air and much lower noise.

If you have replaced your a/c in the last few years, would you please respond with: 1) brand / model, 2) difficulty of installation / diy or shop, 3) installed cost to say the nearest $50, and 4) whether you find the new unit notably quieter than the original Coleman unit?

I am running our unit up to an RV shop near Tyler in late February for a tune up and some front pull out roller work, and I am considering this a/c upgrade if there seems to be enough success stories out there.

Thanks in advance, Larry.

Do a search. A few people have installed the Atwood Air Command and love it. It’s on my list of things to do... I was about to pull the trigger earlier this month but my brother smacked up my tow vehicle, so A/C money is fixing that instead.

Default A/C noise and new installs

Thanks to both posters. I have read the threads on the Atwood, which is where I started in my hunt for a quieter a/c experience.

I had not found the thread from '05 on the fiber board insulation muffler idea. That seems doable before jumping in to an $800 a/c job.

Thanks again. Larry

Default A/C replacement

We replaced our original with the Atwood 15026.

Larry, we'll be taking our trailer out sometime next month for a run to a music festival. I'll send you a PM so you can come by and take a look.

My install link:

The install was not difficult at all and can be completed in a day. The only assistance I required was in removing the old unit and setting the Atwood in place, which was done with the shells lowered. That was all completed with the upper sections lowered.

I had previously removed the interior duct, mounting screws, and elec. connections. Once the new unit was in place atop the trailer, I opened the shells and completed the install.

I don't remember the exact cost, but it was only the cost of the a/c. No other costs were incurred.

We purchased the a/c here. We had to wait a few weeks for availability and the original shipment came in with slight damage to the top. Apparently the shipper had set something on top of the shipping carton and crushed it enough that the top cover had a small crack in it.

A replacement shipment came in just a few days.

We are extremely happy with the replacement. It is so much quieter than the original and has greater cooling capacity.
