Default Grove Recreation Area near Corbin, KY

This is one of the nicest parks we have been to. It is a COE run campground. The sites are huge, many of them, like ours, two tiered. The park is spotless, including the facilities (showers and restrooms). The trails within the campground itself take you to some spectacular views of the Laurel River, from several hundred feet up on the cliffs, to right down to the shoreline.

The first two photos show our campsite. The pad was expertly engineered and completely level. You go down about 8 steps to another large area where your firepit is. It was incredibly private and secluded.

The other three photos are taken while standing atop the Laurel River Dam. One shot is the upstream expanse called Lake Laurel. The other upstream shot shows the public beach that is maintained adjacent to the spillway (great swimming). The third is the downstream shot of the power generation plant and the ongoing Laurel River. Geographically, this is all very close to where the Laurel River joins up with the Cumberland River, not too far from Cumberland Falls (another must see).

Feel free to PM me if you want any more information. This place was fantastic.

All sites had water and electric. We were in the "B" loop, site #05. The B Loop sites are the only ones that are reservable. All the rest of the sites are "first come" basis. We took a walk around the entire campground and did not see a site that we wouldn't have taken. The only caution I would have is to make sure that you are comfortable with the split level sites. You can get a site that is all on one level if steps are not your thing.

The spectacular views are available from any site in the B loop via a few hundred yard hike. There are no "views" from the sites themselves because the trees and vegetation are so dense. That is what I meant by private and secluded.

Can you tell that we loved this place (smile)?
