Default 6300 upgrades

I checked on the availability of upgrades for the 6300 converter from Parallax. There are two upgrade models available, the 7345 and 7355. The 7345 is rated for 45 amps and the 7355 for 55 amps. All other specs are identical. There is a "T" option which is a timer that reduces the 14 amp charge rate to 13.5 amps after 13 hours. This is supposed to minimize over charging during extended periods of of operation on 120VAC shoreline power. If the shoreline power is disconnected for more than two minutes, the timer resets itself for another 13 hours.

I checked with Camping World to see if they carried these new models. This was there response:
"Our part number for the upgrade is 14838 which runs about $259...This item is the 7345RU model. This item does not specify having the timer option." They do not sell the 7355 model or the 7345 with the "T" option.

Does any one know of another distributor for the 7345 or 7355 with the "T" option?

By coincidence I talked to Parallax (Marty Redd) today, and also checked the Camping World website for the price of the upgrade kit. Marty said the changeout to the 7345 was straightforward, and took about an hour for most folks doing it for the first time. He was unable to estimate the added time required for those of us who are electronically challenged but felt we could do it since "if you diconnect a wire on pole 1, you simply reconnect that same wire to pole 1 on the new unit." Sounds like my kind of intellectual challenge.

The price shown on the Camping World Website is $179, less 10% for members--$20 for a one-year membership.

We didn't discuss the 7355 or the timer function, since I didn't think about asking and probably wouldn't have understood the answer anyway.

Default Parallex Converters

Cateye,

Did you see my post on the Parallax controllers - it's under the electric jack thread. I was in our TM tonight connecting the shore power to run the frig. I noticed that the voltage out of the Parallax 7345 without the T option was 13.8 volts.

http://www.parallaxpower.com/7300/7300pwrcntr.pdf

With the T option it would start out at 14 volts before dropping to the nominal voltage after 15 hours. Good if you need to re-chare quickly. Not necessary if you're normally plugged into shore power.

The solar panels keep our batteries fully charged between trips.

Let us know how you make out. Ray
