Default Hitch Height

Anyone know the hitch height on a 2002 TM 2720? We've got a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner that measures at 16.5. Trying to figure out what tongue we need to get to haul the TM.

Conventional wisdom on this board says that when the TM is level, the top of the hitch cup should be 19" above the ground. This will vary, of course, depending on tire size, whether the trailer has a lift kit installed, and whether it has a high-angle axle installed. (On an unmodifed 2002 model, the answers are 14", no, and no.)

Beyond that, you must remember that when you drop the hitch onto the ball, the back of your 4-Runner will drop by an inch or two (or more). Since your goal is to end up with a level TM, the best answer is to buy a WDH with an adjustable ballmount height (you do plan to buy a WDH, don't you?)

Top of hitch bar or top of hitch ball ? Top of ball with TM attached is at 19" now. Sounds like I need to raise a smidgen.

Excellent advice on the WDH.

Well, not for me. In my current configuration I am not going to ddo anything that will add to the effective load on the TM axle.

BTW there is one availble for $160 (with coupon) from HF. I have a tow bar from the same source that has worked very well.

Note a sway control attachment is seperate.

We towed our TM back from TX, 1100 miles, and got away without the WDH. As soon as we got back the old Reese WDH came out of the shed and I set it up. For us a WDH is the only way to go. No slightly light front end, 60% of your breaking is the front, no head lights pointing at the sky and we travel with dry water/holding tanks so that off sets the ~1/3 tongue the WDH puts on the TM axle.
