TM totaled for hail damage
The damage is mostly cosmetic And I just got the verdict from USAA. They are totaling it out. They have valued it at $7783 (2004 TM 2720). Thoughts?

Take the money, buy it back from them for their salvage value: $1000-$1500, go on camping. A number of folks here have done just that. I bought my TM as salvage after an insurance company totalled it.

DR2720, what neck of the country are you from? Was the skin broken on the TM? I agree with Bruce about buying it back, but your going to have fill in each dent where the skin has been broken. I lived in OK for a couple of years and hail damage to RVs was a normal occurance. The issue is what product will you use to keep any water from getting under the skin and cause worse damage than dents? Not sure if the rubber roof coating is the best choice, but I believe it has been done before. Good luck no matter yer decision.

if the price is $1000-$1500 I will definitely buy it back and most likely have the roof linex'd. I dont think the hail broke the skin anywhere, but I would want to be without leaks.

If I buy it back I am thinking of linex. I have been doing some research on the weight and would at least take it to the local linex shop that did my truck for their thoughts.

my buddy had the same thing. He bought it back only to turn around and sell it after seeing all my woes with trying to work with the new factory on parts and service. I just posted that story. He made enough money to get into travel trailer at next to no additional cost.

If the damage is only cosmetic, I think you have a chance for a heck of a deal. The insurance company is going to put almost $8000 in your hand (considerably more than a 2004 is worth, in my opinion), you can buy it back for maybe $1000, spend maybe $500 for a roof coating - at which point you will have the same trailer you had before, plus $6500 in your hand. Not bad! I would follow BrucePerens' advice, and keep on campin'.
Incidentally, NADA puts the value at $5760. If USAA puts it at $8K, you are in a good spot.

I agree with the above. There are dents all over the top of ours and none of them leak.

I agree with those above. Take the generous offer and get it repaired.
My '02 TM was "totaled" by the insurance company primarily because of cosmetic damages (I thought the big dents gave it character) and paid me about $8K in '10. I bought it back from them for $500 and had it repaired by the Car Show for less than $800. I used it for three years before finding a '08 at a good price. I still use it as a permanent camp on our family farm. If I hadn't found a good deal (here), I'd still have the '02 on the road.
FWIW - I've used my TMs very heavily. I live in my '08 about half of the year. Most years, I take it from VA to southern TX, back to VA, and then across the continent to WA and Vancouver Island. I've found that the TM is much tougher than most seem to think. I've camped in temperatures from the lower teens to 100+. My '02 survived hurricane force winds on more than one occasion. And, that was while it was open!
