Default Any recommendations for the DC / VA / MD / WV area?

Because of a trip to Arizona, the first time we'll get the TM out will be Memorial Weekend at Greenbrier State Park.

So I convinced my wife that a preliminary trip was in order with a few of my friends to "test" out the TM and get it ready for the summer. I'm too excited to wait until the end of May.

So, the question is, any recommendations in the Mid-Atlantic for a good place to take the TM for a couple of guys?

About 15 years ago, I did some rock climbing in the George Washington National Forest. Awesome place, great hikes. It's west of Charlottesville and Harrisonburg, VA (which is where UVA and JMU, respectively, are located). I'd go back in a heartbeat.

You might also try Lewis Mountain, on the Skyline drive. This is a small CG that we really like. Plenty of hiking in the area. The concession store also has nice hot showers. The last time we were there it was $1.00 for five minutes. It may be different 'cause that was 2007. We were last there in 2008 for one night on the way to a friends 60 acres in WV where showers were free

So how far do you want to travel and what do you like to do? You say just the guys, but for a really fun trip with the family, we like going to Virgina Safari Park. There is a city campground there that is fairly close and you get to drive through the zoo and feed the animals right from your car.

Gettysburg, PA if that interests you.
Hop on highway 15 going North from the beltway in Frederick, about a half hour from there. Pretty drive as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely took note of those locations and added them to my 'must see' list. So many great places to go and only one TM!

We ended up going to Rocky Gap State Park near Cumberland Maryland. We got some good canoeing and hiking in. Attached are some pictures. I definitely recommend to anyone in the area. The electric sites are very close to the water and it's very scenic. Also, the campground bathroom facilities are brand new which was nice (though I had my own toilet!).

If you go through SE VA, Grayson Highlands is beautiful - adjacent to the Appalachin Trail. We over nighted there last fall and wished we could have stayed longer. Will return. Olga
