Question gray water from shower

On a recent camping trip to Death Valley I noticed that the shower drain goes directly to the ground. Is this normal? Is it a problem? Is there a solution other than placing a tub under the drain?

You have a major plumbing problem if its not leaking past the valve and cap.

Get under there and look while the water is running. If you can't take it to your RV repair place and have them figure out what is happening.

Most campgrounds ( maybe all ) don't allow this as it will pollute ground water and make a mess of the campsite.

Please tell us exactly where the water was coming out.

Was your grey water tank full?

Is there perhaps a crack in the tank, or in the plumbing below?

The water is supposed to go into the grey water tank and stay there (30 gallons worth) until you pull the grey water valve and release it into a dump station, on-site sewer, or portable tank. It is definitely not supposed to go straight to the ground.

Does the water run on the ground from either sink?

I can't imagine how the water could get from the tub to the ground without going into the grey water tank. The tub sits right on top of the tank and it goes directly into the tank. There are no pipes or hoses. The tub fitting is glued directly to top of the tank.

Now, having said all that, you may have a hole in the grey water tank, a broken pipe between the grey water tank and the gate valve or the gate valve could be open or defective.

Is there some sort of overflow valve in between the grey water tank and the drains that would dump water onto the ground if the grey tank was full, instead of blocking of the drains in the TM? I seem to recall someone here saying once that they had grey water spill directly onto the ground when the tank was completely filled to the brim.

I don't know about the later model but I tested mine once ('98 2720), just to see what would happen, (I was in a full hook-up campsite). When the tank was full, it started filling the bath tub (I was running the water in the kitchen sink). I even left the tub 1/2 full for about 20 minutes to see if it might leak. It didn't leak a drop.

In my 2001 there is definitely no overflow. My son left the bathroom sink faucet running when he got up in the middle of the night. By morning the tub was half full

Some members have reported having a leak between the grey water tank and the plumbing that goes directly into the top of the grey water tank. You can't see it (or fix it) without a major disassembly.
