Default extension cord for generator

Good Day All,

The issue....... As a frequent boondocker, I would like to rig up a short electrical extension cord from the 30 amp input outlet to my Yamaha 2000 generator rather than using the long cord provided by TM.

Is it logical to leave the heavy cord at home and rely on a short hookup from the generator? Does less weight and resistance in a shorter cord (3') make sense?

Any comments?
