Check out this prior thread, as I think it explains just about every angle of this question.

The solution is to buy a digital converter. They work great. I used one for years, but it is now surplus to my needs since I got rid of the old TV and bought a new one with a built-in digital tuner. PM me if you have any interest in it.

How to wire a digital converter into the TM with a built-in Receiver TV.

1) Purchase a dual F connector wallplate: http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Dual-F...3223/202699692
2) Cut an opening for the wall plate into the cabinet near the existing antenna amplifier.
3) Remove the antenna amplifier from the wall and disconnect the coax cable from the TV-1 connection on the amplifier. Make sure that this is the cable going to the radio/TV tuner over the fridge and that it is long enough to reach to the new wall plate cut out.
4) Connect the cable from the tuner to the back side of one of the connectors on the new dual wall plate and label the coax cable connector on the front side of the plate as B.
5) Connect a new coax cable between the TV-1 connector on the back of the amplifier wall plate and the second coax connector on the back of the dual wall plate and label the coax connector the the front side of the plate as A.
6) Connect the Ant-In connection on the digital converter box to coax connector A on the front of the dual wall plate using a coax cable long enough to let you set the converter box on the top of the refrigerator.
7) Connect the TV-Out connection on the converter box to connector B on the front of the dual wall plate with a second coax cable.
8) Make sure the antenna amplifier switch is on (green light is on), turn the converter box and the tuner on and follow the converter box instructions to complete the set up.
9) If all goes well then install the plates in the wall and enjoy.

The antenna works for both analog and digital signals so no upgrade or modification is necessary. However there are several upgrades out there that claim to get better reception.

12 volt DC converter boxes are getting scarce. Here is a U-Tube video for converting from 110 VAC to 12 VDC:

And a second option: http://www.ezdigitaltv.com/RVs_and_Converter_Boxes.html

Or this. I have a number of inverters from 80w to 1200w but leave this one in the TM. Can also charge phones & tablets.

Why buy an inverter to change the 12 vdc to 110 vac so that the converter box can change it back to 12 vdc? The existing radio and TV are 12 vdc. The fewer boxes in the circuit the better.

Thought the problem was that they needed a converter/tuner box (never did get the make/model of the monitor) and 12v ones were hard to find ?

If the criteria are different please state them.

Thank you very much for the detailed information! You did an excellent job in describing how it's to be done.

TM offered a built-in TV for a few years around 2007. The monitor was built into the front bathroom wall over the sink. The tuner was part of a single din AM/FM/DVD/TV receiver installed over the fridge. All of this equipment operated on 12 vdc so it could be used off grid. There is no direct replacement for this equipment except to tear the monitor out of the wall and replace it with a digital TV. My intent was to keep everything as simple as possible when installing a digital converter box as requested by the OP.
